I haven't written in a while, so I just wanted to send a quick update...

I'm off to New York for a week today and then Seville for a week. I'm
shooting for a new documentary called Being in the World, an exploration of
the ideas of a philosopher named Hubert Dreyfus, who has had a huge
influence on me (and in fact is the reason I became a filmmaker.) We are
interviewing a professor at Columbia and then at Harvard before going to
Spain to shoot a Flamenco fiesta...an event that happens to perfectly fit
some of the phenomena we are trying to explain in the film. The film overall
is a celebration of human skills and mastery, and how those skills lead to
practices and rituals which contribute to a richer and more meaningful life.

You may notice several projects from now on preceded by "Mangusta & LAFCO
present:" Mangusta & LAFCO is a new partnership we have created with a
fantastic New York production company, headed by a wonderful man named
Giancarlo Canavesio and his team of film and video art enthusiasts. Together
Mangusta & LAFCO will continue to make films that take you on inner and
outer journeys. Mangusta & LAFCO was responsible for FIX, Behind The Wheel
and is now the entity producing Being in the World. We are also making a
film about 2012 starring Daniel Pinchbeck and directed by Joao Amorim. While
many people have heard stories about 2012 being the end of the world, we
take the stance that it represents the opportunity for a new
beginning...More on this project soon.

After nearly 2 years of not being able to play guitar because of
tendinitis/karpal tunnel, I have started playing again. I posted a video of
a Tarantas I played in Vignanello:

Also, we were at Burning man this summer for the 5th or 6th time and I
continue to think of it as the most amazing thing on the planet. We made a

Another one of my favorite places is the Salton Sea, probably the most
bizarre place I've ever been. We made a little film there whilst they
attempted to set world records of speed on water last month. Here is the

Also, I have posted my entire feature film on flamenco, called Flamenco: A
Personal Journey, on youtube. It was my first feature film (completed in
2000,) and it is a rare look into the world of the flamenco way of life.

I also started a series made from the outtakes of A Personal Journey called

with both films. FIX has been in 31 festivals now and has wond 12 awards,
